Two team exercises for teaching social competencies

Exercise: Building a cardboard box

A practical and innovative way of promoting social competences is the ‘Building a cardboard box’ exercise. This team exercise promotes the students’ problem-solving creativity. The existing knowledge of the students is used in the exercise, in order to jointly develop problem-solving strategies.

Exercise: Case study - checkout area

The description of the case study enables students to explore a situation that could occur in the day-to-day routine of the retail sector. The different roles within the team lead to situations creating problems and conflict between the team members. The TLA teaches students to carry out their assigned role, to defend their position and to be responsive to the opinions of other team members. The main goal of the team work is to find an agreed solution and to achieve a result.
